Tina Garcia 1957-2005
We are offering a wonderful hand thrown burnished pottery jar crafted by Tina Garcia (1957-2005) of Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico. Tina was born in Oregon in 1957, the daughter of Lydia Tafoya from Santa Clara Pueblo and Santiago Tafoya from San Juan Pueblo. The family returned to Santa Clara Pueblo when Tina was 5 where she was surrounded by some of the finest traditional Pueblo potters. She was guided by her grandmother Severa Guiterrez Tafoya and her aunt Angela Baca as well as her mother. Tina won the Best of Division award at the Santa Fe Indian Market in 1986 and again in 1996. While most of her other ribbons were blue, she took home some award nearly every time she went to Santa Fe Indian Market. Tina died in 2005. Signed "Tina Garcia San Juan/ Santa Clara" on underside. Measures 8 1/2" tall x 6" across in diameter at the widest point. In excellent condition. No cracks, no chips, no repairs or other issues. Crisp and Clean!
